The Story...

I know some of you want to know the story as to what happened to little Deacon. The last post I just really wanted to thank everyone and let you know that he was okay. I was still very emotional and didn't want to re-live the accident. However, I'm still struggling but as the days go by it is getting better.
Sunday at church I took Deacon out of his car seat to go change a messy diaper. When I returned to class he was a little fussy so I continued to hold and comfort him. Afterwards he was so content and bundled up that I just laid him back in his car seat without buckling it thinking I would remember to do it before we left the church. I proceeded to round up all the other kiddos. Jarron serves in the library and when I got there Bentley wanted me and was fussy and ready to go home for her nap. Jarron told me to take all the kids out to the car and he would bring Deacon and be out in a sec. So, after we got home Jarron was on the side to get Deacon out and because our cars are in the garage pretty tight and the boys get out Deacon's door Jarron lifted him up over the door slanting the car seat down and Deacon slid right out. He fell and hit just a piece of carpet on the concrete floor of the garage from about 5 1/2 ft. high. The moment I heard the hit flashbacks of not buckling him in shot through my mind and I knew the thump was his head. We got home from church about noon and were being admitted to the ER by 12:30. This was such an awful scary mommy moment that I can tell you that not buckling one of my kids into a car seat will never happen again. Again, thanks for all your prayers and cares! Deacon is still doing great and being a tough little trooper!

How sad! Now that I know the whole story, definately don't be so hard on yourself. We have all done that one. You lay the baby in the carseat but don't buckle them up cause it might wake them up and if they start to cry you want easy access so you can swoop them up before they disrupt to many people. Stuff happens! I am just glad that the little guys is doing ok.

Oh my goodness! I bet you were terrified. I think we have all made that mistake at least once. Don't beat yourself up about it. Heaven;y Father did bless you and thank goodness for the priesthood. You all are in our prayers.

Oh, such a scary day for you!! I have also forgotten to buckle an infant on multiple occasions. I'm so SO glad that he is okay. You guys are such a wonderful family! Take care!

oh how scary! I am so glad he is OK. Jonathan wasn't watching Rowan carefully one day and he rolled off our bed. He was still pretty young and I was so worried something had happened to his head/brain. Such a scary thing when they are so little and can't communicate! I am glad all is well.

Its not your fault....its extremely unfortunate....and both you and jarron will be so careful forever with carseats that it will be safer for ever. I am so sorry for deacon and glad hes fine.
